$1 1935-A Silver Cert. Fr. 2300 WWII Emergency Issue CHEAP HAWAII Brown Seal VF
This Series 1935-A $1 Hawaii Emergency Issue Silver Certificate, Fr. 2300, features George Washington’s portrait, brown Treasury seal and serial numbers, and HAWAII overprints on both sides. The green reverse displays both sides of the Great Seal of the United States beneath prominent HAWAII lettering. Offered in Very Fine condition, this affordable circulated example is an accessible entry into America’s WWII emergency currency.
Introduced in 1942 following the attack on Pearl Harbor, these specially marked notes replaced ordinary currency in Hawaii as protection against a possible Japanese invasion. If enemy forces captured supplies of cash, the government could identify and invalidate the Hawaii-marked notes. That defensive purpose gives this familiar dollar design an important place in wartime history. A budget-friendly opportunity to begin a Hawaii denomination set or add a historic brown-seal dollar to a Silver Certificate collection.
