A long-time favorite with collectors and arguably one of the most distinctive compositions to enter circulation with the Series of 1869. The $2 Legal Tender Note issued under that series was no doubt a workhorse in commerce and most circulated into oblivion or were redeemed with great prejudice at the end of a harsh life in circulation. Yet this piece stands fortunate owing to the fact that it did not fall to such an inglorious end. A single comment for a "Minor Restoration" has been applied, but is wholly immaterial when held against the abundance of color seen and retained with regards to the under and overprinted elements of the design along with the distinctly blue coloration endemic to the security paper furnished by the Wilcox Company. Each of these elements helps provide a level of eye appeal seldom encountered on a circulated specimen and should rightfully distinguish this piece from its competitors.
